SNEHALAYA

Spark of hope… the long feared consequences of AIDS do leave black marks in the lives of many.  We cannot but open our hearts, eyes and ears to the cry of the innocent children.
As the need of the time demands we, Daughters of the Church in India by the grace of God and by the generosity of local as well as good friends abroad like Dr.Salvator have given spark of hope in the lives of the little children who are suffering for no fault of their own.
Thus we gave birth to our small initiative for the children of the AIDS patients at Mandya about 5 months back. The house where we accept these children is called 'Snehalaya "house of love. That name is very significant because among the various needs that they have, love remains in the first place and Snehalaya is an answer to this need.
They are six, two boys and four girls. Here at Snehalaya they are happy because they feel that they have someone to take care of. Only two have mother and others are orphans, hence one can understand their happiness to be here.
Among the 5, 3 are good in the study. One who is in nursery has a little difficulty in speaking. With the exercises there is slight improvement in him.. Two are in class V, one in Class IV and another in Class III. The little one who came a week ago, is two year old.
As all of them share the same sort they are very united among themselves. There is a young lady who lives with them to assist them and they call her mom. On 17 November, the Bishop of Mysore has blessed the home and on that occasion these children performed many cultural items in honor of him.
